Here we have Top Brazilian insurers by assets
A ranking by rating agency AM Best of the top 10 life insurers in Brazil by assets has Bradesco Vida e Previdencia, the insurance arm of the country's second largest private sector lender Bradesco (NYSE: BBD), as number one with 97.5bn reais (US$48.5bn) as of end-2011.
In second place was life and pension insurer Itau Vida e Previdencia with 71.5bn reais in assets.
Third place went to Brasilprev, a joint venture between federally controlled lender BB and US insurer Principal (NYSE: PFG), with 49.6bn reais.
Santander Seguros was fourth with 24.6bn reais and P&C insurer Itau Seguros came in fifth with 19.7bn pesos in assets.
Locally owned Caixa Vida e Previdencia was sixth with 17.0bn reais, followed by federally controlled reinsurer IRB-Brasil Re in seventh with 9.94bn reais in assets.
HSBC Vida e Previdencia came in eighth with 9.69bn reais in assets.
Bradesco's health insurance unit was ninth with 8.88bn reais in assets, followed by Porto Seguro with 7.01bn reais.
